The premiere string quartet in this country - do you remember when they enchanted us by performing on matching Stradivarius instruments on loan from the Smithsonian? A truly outstanding ensemble to open our 33rd Season. They will perform a program of “Ars Longa, Vita Brevis” with Mozart, Mendelssohn and Schubert’s “Death and the Maiden”.
Escher String Quartet with Guitarist Jason VieauxExploring the large volume of music written during the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries, the combination of guitar and string quartet offers us a new listening experience, which we shall all enjoy. And we rarely hear Villa Lobos or Albeniz, or Piazzolla. What a treat that’ll be!

Vanessa Perez, pianoWe are forever on the lookout for young, talented, outstanding musicians, and we found this one in near-by New York State. She fulfilled all our requirements: Talent from here to heaven’s gate. Technique - simply virtuosic. Communicative power and connection with the audience - clearly captivating. We were smitten with her interpretations of Bach, Albeniz and Chopin. You’ll be, too.
den Chamber PlayersWhat happens when you have some strings and a piano and a contra bass? Does it make you think of Schubert’s “Trout” Quintet? Of course, it does. One of the most beloved pieces in chamber music repertoire will be on the program as well as a little more rarely heard Schubert and a Beethoven Serenade for viola and cello. Sounds lush? Naturally.
Hugo Wolf QuartettWe enjoyed these virtuosic Viennese the last time they visited Newtown and thought we’d have them back again. Maybe they’ll play some Dvorak and other gems of the string quartet repertoire, and why not a little Intermezzo by Hugo Wolf himself.
We just cannot resist the combination of clarinet, soprano and piano when it comes to some short Schubert lieder and everyone already loves piano trio music. If we can keep them overnight, the ensemble will visit Newtown schools for one of our popular and important School Outreach Programs on Monday morning - even better.
