Founded in 1993 within the Vienna University for Music, the Hugo Wolf Quartett has developed into one of the most sought after string quartets of its generation. These four artists quickly won first prizes, and awards, at multiple European competitions, and made their debut at the Vienna Konzerthaus. The young musicians have now performed for over fifteen years in some of the most prominent concert halls and renowned festivals all over the world. They played at the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Philharmonie Berlin and Cologne, the Palais des Beaux-Arts Brussels, Symphony Hall Birmingham, L'été musical dans la vallée du Lot, Wigmore Hall London, Carnegie Hall New York, Suntory Hall Tokyo, Herkulessaal Munich, Schubertiade Feldkirch, Tonhalle Zurich, Rudolfinum Prague, Edinburgh Festival, Mozarteum Salzburg, Musikverein and Konzerthaus Vienna, Colmar Festival, and many others. Concert tours also regularly take the quartet to North and South America, Mexico, Japan, and elsewhere.
Sebastian Gürtler, hails from Hallein, Austria, and was appointed first violin of the Hugo Wolf Quartett in 2005. He has appeared with numerous European orchestras, and with musicians such as Trevor Pinnock, Günther Herbig and Yehudi Menuhin, to name just a few.
Régis Bringolf, second violin, was born in Lausanne, Switzerland, where he fist trained. He moved to Vienna in 1990, where he soon found his music skills in high demand, and in 1993 co-founded the Hugo Wolf Quartett. He has performed with renowned conductors.
Gertrud Weinmeister, viola, was born in Salzburg, first studied in Vienna, later completing post-graduate studies at Northern Illinois University. She is also solo violist with the Concentus Musicus Wien and teaches at the Konservatorium-Wien-Privatuniversität.
Florian Berner, cello, was born in Vienna. He studied at the Vienna University of Music and Performing Arts, and with members of the Alban Berg Quartet. He co-founded the Hugo Wolf Quartet, appears in many concerts, while also teaching courses in chamber music.
