NEWTOWN - Looking and sounding like a world class concert piano soloist, the 17-year old Remy Yuhou Zhang gave a polished gem of a performance last Sunday afternoon in a Praeludium Recital for the Newtown Friends of Music. Cool, calm and completely collected, Zhang gave a superb performance, without sheet music, aided only by his 88 assistants from Wm. Knabe & Co.
NEWTOWN - A lot of history was being celebrated last Sunday at Edmond Town Hall.
The Newtown Friends of Music had a bit of a 30th birthday party at the reception following the musical travelogue given by the Kavafian-Schub-Shifrin Trio. NFM President Ellen Parrella had kudos for many, but was particularly grateful for the 30 year sponsorship provided by The Taunton Press.
After nearly a quarter of a century, pianist Richard Goode returned to Newtown last weekend to open this season's Friends of Music chamber concert series, and he indeed opened it with a bang. Playing to a nearly packed house who sat in hushed silence, Mr Goode put together an impressive program that showcased his reputation as an interpreter of both classical and romantic composers.
The Newtown Friends of Music presented the St. Petersburg Quartet with clarinetist David Shifrin at Edmond Town Hall on Sunday. Two standbys of the clarinet chamber music repertoire started and finished the program, with a vibrant performance straight from the heart of the quartet's native Russia at its core.
Maria Bachmann’s violin recital on Sunday at Newtown’s Edmond Town Hall stuck to the standard repertoire, as she noted in remarks from the stage, with none of the contemporary works she has often performed and recorded.
